He didn't see me as I watched
He had one focus on his mind
When his eyes look towards his prey
For other things he is quite blind

He stretches his neck forward
And his tail straight out back
He can outrun the little creature
That soon will be his snack

But sometimes he is foiled
When he goes to raid a nest
I once saw a chipmunk chase
And the race was quite the best

Sometimes he blends into
The surrounding color scheme
He waits quietly until something
Comes unto his scene

He thinks he is invisible
But most can spot him there
Occasionally though the
Little creatures are unaware

He is an odd-looking bird
And not particularly smart
But it is fun to watch him
As he begins to run and dart
